Organization of the month: Movement for Black Lives

This blog and the wider work that I do are not just about discussing politics and social justice but thinking about how we make lasting change. To emphasize that, I’m adding a new feature to the blog where I highlight an organization I support that is doing effective and important work.

I try to put my money where my mouth is as far as contributing to organizations I believe in. In addition to giving to some organizations monthly, I set myself a reminder once a month to make another donation and hold myself accountable to investing in social change. There are many ways you can help organizations with your time, your voice and your money and I aim to do as much as I can, but there’s always more.

Anyone who has read this blog knows that I feel passionately about the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement. They have been bold and strategic and kept a sustained conversation going on the issue of racist violence against people of color that has resonated in our culture and our political system. The Movement for Black Lives recently released a policy platform, an important complement to the effective grassroots work we’ve seen so far. Check out their site where you can endorse their platform and donate.
